All your unwanted discs can now be recycled! The EnviroDisc CD Recycling program aims to prevent waste/unwanted discs from ending up in our landfills around Australia. CDs and DVDs are extremely durable and non-biodegradeable, meaning that they will last almost forever in a landfill. All discs also contain toxic chemicals and metals that may seep into the landfill over time. EnviroDisc encourages everyone to think about the environment before `biffing' their CDs into the trash. Send them to EnviroDisc instead.

EnviroDisc CD & DVD Recycling - Overview
EnviroDisc CD & DVD Recycling gives everyone a choice to dispose of CDs in an environmentally responsible way. It is suitable for all types of CDs & DVDs; including music CDs, writeable CD ROMs, DVDs, and Game discs (*NB, not including plastic cases & inserts). All types & formats of discs are recycled, their polycarbonate and aluminium content are extracted and used in the manufacture of new components which require hard plastics and metals, such as motorcycle helmuts and sunglasses frames.
The recycling process separates the various plastic components of the optical media using a granulation technique as a first step. Friction washing is used to remove the metal layer of the CDs and DVDs, and finally, a patented process recovers primary materials such as polycarbonate, polypropylene and aluminium.
The recovered plastics are used in Australia for manufacturing a wide variety of plastic products. The efficiency of the disc recycling process produces quality recycled plastics, thereby reducing the use of virgin raw materials in the manufacture of new plastic products.
